What’s happening this week
The sounds we are focussing on this week in phonics are;
‘u’ as in unit, unicorn, music, human, stupid ‘
‘‘c’ as in central, acid, cycle, icy
‘er’ her, stern, herbs, servant
‘ou’ out, about, cloud, found
Our spelling focus this week is ‘th, ‘f’ and ‘ss’ words as well as continuing with high frequency words.
Next week we continue looking at traditional fairy tales. We will discuss different traditional tales with a ‘twist’. Children have already enjoyed watching some of Roald Dahl’s revolting rhymes and have been shocked with the twists! By the end of the week children will be making a new character who lives under the bridge and continuing the story of ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’.
During our maths sessions we are looking at different number bonds. Finding different pairs of numbers that make a total. We will use a range of resources and art materials to help us understand the concept and learn the inverse of the number sentences.
For example 8+2=10 2+8=10 10-8=2 10-2=8
Our focus over the next two week in science is linked to ‘Do all animals eat the same?’. We will learn about different animals groups and simple food chains, hopefully getting outside for hands on tasks, weather permitting! Children need to know animals are grouped into six main categories, birds, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, fish and insects.
From listening to parents view we will be offering a homework club on a Tuesday afterschool from 3:15 till 3:45pm. This will take place in Mr Card’s classroom. Children will get the opportunity to practice number gym for ten minutes, practice spelling for ten minutes and read to a friend. Children will also get a little extra snack in Key Stage One as we know it’s a long day.
Please find Ouseclass @ BrothertonandByram, where you can keep up to date with all that we are doing, as regular photos are unloaded. This is a closed group and can only be seen if you request it.
