Welcome to Aire Class!
Teachers in our class are:
Miss Oglesby, Teacher and Mrs Caffrey, Teaching Assistant.
Every morning we come into class, complete our morning task, which usually involves practising our handwriting, and then have ‘check in’. ‘Check in’ is a time where we come together and check how we are all feeling at the start of the day.
We then have phonics followed by English and Mathematics (except on Thursdays). When we are not learning in a group with the teacher, we learn through independent challenges.
After lunch we have spellings and reading followed by topic time. We ask questions about our topic and get to say what we would like to learn about. We love to end the day with show and tell or a story.
On Thursdays we have our ‘carousel morning’ where we spend time with different teachers. Mr Jeff teaches us P.E., Mr Heath teaches us Music, Mrs Sadullah teaches us Spanish and we have restorative circles with Miss Knight. Your child will need to come into school dressed in their P.E. kit on this day and bring their school uniform in their bag to change back into before lunch time.
On Friday afternoons we will have an additional P.E. session so your child should leave their P.E. kit in school on a Thursday evening so that have it to get changed into on a Friday afternoon and then they can take it home at the end of the day on Friday.
Each morning your child should bring their planner and reading books into the classroom and place them in the planner basket. When your child has finished reading their book with you at home they can then change it for a new one at school. Asking your child questions about their book as you go along will help to develop their understanding and question answering skills. Please write a note in their planner to say they have read with you. It is also great for children to read the same book more than once to increase their familiarity with words and improve their fluency. Your child can also read anything at home, from books to magazines, the back of a cereal packet to a leaflet sent through the post!
We are very grateful for any volunteer readers who would like to spend time reading with children from our class on an afternoon. If this sounds like something you would like to do, please speak to Miss Oglesby.
During afternoon reading your child will have the opportunity to change their books once a week. If your child would like to change their books more frequently than this they can change them independently when they come into school on a morning after asking a teacher in our class.
Our homework policy is on the website. Homework projects will be set every few weeks and a spelling check will take place each Friday after which gems will be awarded for improved scores. Homework includes spellings, number gym and reading daily. Children are expected to practice writing spellings in sentences.
