Adults in Team Ouse…

We are a Year 1 class and pride ourselves on working as a team. The adults you will see in Class Ouse are Mrs Jeff, Miss Stables, Mrs Hand and Mrs Caffrey. On a Thursday you will also see Mr Jeff, Mrs Sadullah, Miss Knight and Mr Heath when the children have a carousel morning of PE, Restorative circles, Spanish and Music.

Our Learning

In Class Ouse we enjoy learning through challenge areas and whole team learning. Our challenges are inspired by our team’s interests and we enjoy beginning new topics by creating lots of questions to research and investigate. We take pride in our independent learning tasks and love to display our learning around the classroom.

In Team Ouse our day begins with an independent challenge. We then come together as a class for our daily ‘check in’ which gives us all the opportunity to discuss how we are feeling. This is great for children to develop an understanding of their emotions and how to manage difficult situations. We then continue our day with a phonics session, followed by English and Maths. After lunch we focus on spellings, reading and our topic session. We always end the day with a story and a celebration of Wow achievements that day.

Reading in Class Ouse…

Our team loves to get lost in stories! We enjoy story time, reading books with our partners and to the adults in the classroom. Children are given the opportunity to change their books daily. We encourage independence and have a strong belief that the children should choose the books that catch their interests. We aim to develop and nurture a love for reading.

Reading at home is an important part of fostering a love for reading and greatly compliments the hard work the children are doing in school. It’s also great fun! Team Ouse can read anything at home from books to magazines, the back of a cereal packet to a leaflet sent through the post! Please enjoy lots of books with your child at home and mark this in their planner. Read to them and listen to their fantastic stories. By asking questions about the story, you are helping develop their understanding of what they have read. By listening to them read out loud you are supporting their reading fluency and vocabulary.

Homework and Spellings…

Our homework policy is on the website and homework will be given on a Friday and a spelling test will be done the following Friday. A sheet will be sent home with the spelling the children need to continue to work on. Rewards will be given to children who get full marks. Homework includes spellings, number gym and reading daily. Children are expected to practice writing spellings in sentences.

Homework tasks are sent home through a three week challenge. Please choose a challenge per week. We look forward to sharing the homework through show and tell in our team.

Spelling tests – Spelling tests will be on a Friday and recorded in the planners. Please make sure children have their planners every day.

PE – PE takes place on a Thursday morning and a Friday afternoon. PE kits can come to school on a Thursday and stay in school for children to get changed into on Friday afternoon.

If you have any questions please speak to one of the adults in Class Ouse or make an appointment to see Mrs Jeff or Miss Stables after school.
