Mr Toulson joins the team at Brotherton and Byram!

Mr Toulson, our new PE teacher, had his first day with us on Tuesday this week! The children had a wonderful time taking part in their first PE lessons of the new academic year and Mr Toulson was very impressed with how well they all did. We are proud of our PE delivery at school and look forward to working with Mr Toulson to continue to build on strong foundations this year. This year, Miss Smyth and Mrs Caffrey will be taking over the leadership of PE and Sport for our school. They have already begun making arrangements for our school to participate in local cluster events; more information to follow later on in the term!

We are also running a number of Sports clubs after school, free of charge, and there is further information further down the newsletter.

Elsewhere, around school the children have been really busy settling into their new classes and year groups. I was very impressed with Team Calder’s Maths lesson this week on place value. The children had access to a wide range of practical resources to help them represent the place value of larger numbers. Meanwhile, our new Library timetable is up and running with every class now regularly attending our special new library space on a weekly basis. It has been a joy to see how much the children enjoy reading and using the space together. Save the date..Miss Smyth and Miss Catterall are putting the finishing touches together for the library grand opening, which will take place during the next Celebration of Learning event after school on Thursday 17th October! We hope to see you there to join in the celebrations!

There are a few other pieces of information to draw your attention to below; including information on our new Dance club starting next week, free eye tests for your children and upcoming events at the Selby Music Centre.

Thank you for your continued support, Mr Greene
