Team Ouse head to the Ledston Estate

 “Don’t just tell children about the world, show them”, Penny Whitehouse

This week, Team Ouse went on their first school trip of the year to the nearby Ledston Estate to take part in a full day of Forest School activities. At Brotherton and Byram Academy, we highly value making the most of opportunities for our children to learn outdoors in the natural environment. We are very proud of our Forest School provision and curriculum, which we are continuing to develop and build with your ongoing support. When learning outdoors, children explore the world around them on a larger scale. They communicate differently, ask questions and make links that they might not have previously thought about. This trip, therefore, gave our Year 2 children a wonderful opportunity to explore a local natural environment safely and with exciting new activities and skills. The children were outstanding role models and thoroughly enjoyed the day. Our thanks go to Barbara (who manages the centre and led the day) and to Mrs Jeff for organising the trip. Thank you as well to our volunteers who offered support to enrich our curriculum offer.

In other news, you might be aware of a recent incident this week in the local community where a stranger approached a child in the village. I have spoken to the Police about the swift action they have taken; thank you to those of you who contacted school to make us aware as well. In light of this incident, I asked our Police Liaison Officer to come into school to talk to the children about being alert and what to do if something similar happens to them in the future. If any incidents of this nature take place, contact 999 immediately.

Coming up, we look forward to hosting the Macmillan Coffee Morning next Friday 27th September from the beginning of the school day on the main playground. Please come along and show your support! We also have a couple of short important meetings next week beginning with our Reading Meeting on Tuesday 24th September at 16:00. This is for all parents of pupils in Team’s Nidd and Aire. Then, on Wednesday 25th September, at 17:30 we are hosting our Year 6 SATs information evening with Miss Smyth for all families in Team Humber. Do make it a priority to be there if you are able.

Have a great weekend and see you next week! Mr Greene

         Safeguarding Thought of the Week

This week we have been speaking to our children about their safe adults. Safe adults are the people who they can turn to in times of worry, stress or crisis. safe adults can include;

  • Parents/carers
  • Family members
  • Teachers
  • Police Officers
  • Medical professionals

It is important for children to recognise who their safe adults are as they are likely to change depending on their situation; at home, at school or when out playing in the community. Please discuss with your children who their safe adults might be. For further information around safe adults please visit; https://oursaferschools.co.uk/2021/02/08/trusted-adults/
