International Language Day 2024

What a busy week we have had this week! Yesterday, our Spanish Teacher Mrs Sadullah, launched our International Language Day 2024 with a fantastic whole-school assembly. This year, our focus was on learning new languages through Music and then children had lots of fun throughout the day taking part in different language activities. The children in Team Ouse, for example, joined in with a Disney singalong in different languages, including sign language. Other pupils listened to traditional tales in Spanish and played games like language bingo. We have a range of different languages spoken in our school community including Polish, Romanian and Arabic. It has been really good to celebrate these different languages, and more, as we enjoy being citizens in a global diverse community. Thank you Mrs Sadullah for organising this event!

In other news, a HUGE well done this week to the children in Team Aire who became our first winners of the class attendance award of the year! Every day that a class has all of its team members in, they receive one of the letters that spell the word ‘attendance’. After 10 days of 100% attendance the team receives a non-uniform day as a treat. Well done Team Aire! Thank you for your continued support this year as we continue to work closely together to ensure that all our pupils are in school, on time, every day.

Over the last few years, we have built up a strong PE curriculum and taken part in a growing number of inter-school community competitions and events. These events provide a fantastic opportunity for children to use and apply their knowledge and skills of different sports in a friendly area with peers from other local schools. Organised by Mrs Caffrey, we are booked to take part in a range of activities this year for children in key stages 1 and 2. This week we were delighted to take part in the year 5 and 6 girls football event at Selby College. 15 of our pupils attended, had loads of fun and represented our school extremely well. Well done team! Our next events will be KS1 Multi-Skills in October – watch this space!

Lastly, a big thank you for supporting our MacMillan Coffee Morning event today. We were pleased to join with many other organisations across the country to fundraise for this important charity. Thank you for your support and thank you Mrs Robertson for organising it!

Have a great weekend and see you next week! Mr Greene
