Newsletter 4th October 2024

Friday 4th October 2024

What a busy week we have had this week at school! In Key Stage 2 this week, the children have been working extremely hard in their Science lessons. In Year 4, Team Foss have been learning about the human body. They have been learning about internal organs and building their own ‘paper bodies’. They have been learning to name different body parts and where they are inside our body. They used their paper bodies to map out where each organ belongs. Meanwhile, over in Year 5, the children in Team Calder have been learning about the properties of different materials. They have been testing different materials to find out the best ones for use as insulation. The children have loved the active learning and using their scientific enquiry skills! Well done everyone!

In other news, we wanted to say thank you for all of your support last week with our MacMillan Coffee morning. Thank you for your donations of cakes and for cash donations on the day. We are delighted to share that we raised £151.21 to send to MacMillan to support the important work that they do. Thank you!

Next week on Wednesday to Friday we are excited to be taking the Year 4 children to their residential at the Kingswood Centre near Sheffield. This is a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn new skills, develop independence and strengthen their team work. I will be attending the trip, along with Miss Catterall, Mrs Caffrey and Miss Leng. We have organised cover for Team Aire and Team Derwent with Miss Johnson, Mrs Everett and Mrs Jeff. Keep an eye out for updates on our X page whilst we are away!

Lastly, we will hold parent consultations during the final week of this half-term (w.c 21st October 2024). We will hold this online and you will shortly receive information on how to sign up for a slot. These will follow the celebration of learning event on the 17th October at 15:15 – 16:15, where you are invited to come into class to see what your child has been learning. We hope to see you there!

Thank you for your continued support! Mr Greene

Safeguarding Thought of the Week

September saw the introduction of the Department for Education’s increased expectation on issuing fixed penalty notices. As a school, we are duty bound to refer to the North Yorkshire Local Authority for all families who take an unauthorised leave of absence. As a rule we are not permitted to authorise family holidays and what previously may have constituted ‘exceptional circumstances’ must be referred to the local authority for the consideration of a fine. Whilst we are aware that this will not always be a popular message, and can bring with it some level of heightened emotion, we feel grateful for the support, care and commitment that we get from all of our families in working with us to provide your children with the best start in life.

As a school, we want to draw your attention to the following points in relation to our attendance routines:

  • On Time, Every Day – the classroom doors open at 08:35 and close at 08:45. It is crucial that children are in school at the start of the day to help them settle into their morning routines and begin their learning immediately. Children are marked on the register as ‘late’ if they arrive at school after 08:55.
  • Coughs and Colds – children should still come to school unless they are sick or very unwell. We will always support and monitor pupils who feel ‘under the weather’ and will contact you if we need to.
  • Appointments we understand that some children may need a medical appointment and that these might occur during school hours. However, if at all possible, please may we ask that you request for these to be arranged outside of school hours.
  • Holidays – we are not able to authorise holiday requests during term time. All holidays must take place during school holidays. Thank you for your support with this.
