Newsletter 15th November 2024

Friday 15th November 2024

This week, 67 of our Key Stage 2 pupils travelled to Selby College for this year’s regional cross country qualifying event. Taking part in a 2km run around the college sports fields, the children competed against pupil’s in their age categories from schools across the local area. Mrs Caffrey, who led the trip, said that she was absolutely blown away by the determination and energy of all the pupils. Well done everyone, you should feel really proud for giving it your all and representing the school so passionately. I’m delighted to share that 26 of our team qualified for the regional finals and will return later in the year to take part! Well done! Thank you to Mrs Caffrey and the team who made the event happen as part of our drive to encourage all of our pupils to be increasingly active and take part in inter-school sporting events this year.

Meanwhile, over in EYFS, Teams Esk and Nidd were delighted to receive a visit from Red Watch at Selby Fire Station! The firefighters arrived at school on Wednesday afternoon with a fire engine to talk to the children about the important work they do as part of the emergency services to keep people safe. The children were thrilled to sit in the fire engine and see a demonstration of the different items of equipment. Following their visit, the fire brigade have asked us to share their ‘Home Safety Visit’ offer. We include further information on their leaflet included in the newsletter below.

As you will have seen on our Parent/Carer Christmas information leaflet that went home recently, there are lots of preparations underway to organise the different events coming up in school this December. Please note that bookings for Christmas dinner are now open.

Finally, we are delighted to announce that we are trialling a new play library for families of children in Early Years with a company called Boromi. Our Play Library will include a collection of play bags where each term you will be able to freely borrow, take home and explore these together with your child. We are hosting a parent information session for parents/carers of children in EYFS next Wednesday 20th November at 2.45pm. Please join us in the hall to explore our Play Library and have a sneak preview of the play bags that will be heading home following our launch

Have a wonderful weekend, Mr Greene
