Well done to the 29 children who represented Brotherton & Byram at the Selby schools Cross Country Finals yesterday! The team showed an enormous amount of resilience and courage. Friendships were strengthened and sportsmanship shone from each and every child. Thank you to Mrs Caffrey for organising this trip and thank you Mrs Haselden-Atkins and Mrs Hand for your support. Well done everyone; we are very proud of all of our finalists!
In Year 2 this week, the children have been continuing their learning in Science about plants. They learnt about the Life Cycle of a Bean and followed instructions to plant their own broad beans in pots. Each week they will make close observations of how they have grown and record their observations in their Bean Diaries to see what has changed each week.
Meanwhile, the children in Team Derwent have been making excellent progress in Maths this week. Year 3 have been learning how to add 2 and 3 digit numbers using column addition. The class practiced with different arithmetic questions, making sure to be careful writing the correct place value of a number in the correct column. Year 3 are ready to use this knowledge to challenge themselves with problem solving questions!
I’m also delighted to let you know that, following a successful trial in school, Miss Catterall (our school Computing Lead) is launching a new free after-school club called ‘Micro:Bit Club’ from the 29th January. This club will take place after school until 16:15 on a Wednesday and is for pupils in KS2. Created by the BBC, ‘Micro:Bits’ are pocket-sized computers that are used to teach children how to programme software in a fun and accessible way. Please sign up using the Google form sent out from the office or speak to a member of staff in the office if you have any questions.
Finally, as a school we have a broad and balanced curriculum, including teaching our children about how to keep themselves safe online. We recognise that online technology and social media is constantly changing and that, as parents, we can often have many questions. Therefore, for the next few weeks we will be sharing some useful information for you as parents and carers around online safety. This week Mrs Robertson has included a poster below which contains really useful information and tips about digital group chats on devices. We hope you find it helpful and do come and speak to us if you would like any further information or advice. Thank you for your continued support and have a great weekend, Mr Greene
