Safer Internet Day
This week across the school we have been learning about Safer Internet Day, which we launched during a whole-school assembly. We have been talking to the children about how amazing the internet is and how it can help us all to access information and entertainment. This Safer Internet Day we are starting a conversation about how to spot, respond to and report all types of scams online. Our focus has been on awareness of scams, what they may look like and how they may make us feel. Year one looked at a social story about a child called Samira who experienced a scam pop up when playing a game. Team Aire thought about how it made Samira feel initially when she thought she could get new rewards (excited) and then how it made Samira feel her dad told her it was a scam which is unsafe (worried). For further tips and information on ensuring your child is safe online please find the following information: https://saferinternet.org.uk/safer-internet-day/safer-internet-day-2025/tips-for-parents-and-carers
In the wider offering at Brotherton, MicroBit Club have been using online software to create code. They have been working on a project using variables and conditionals to create the game ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’. For example, when you shake the microbit, it generates a number between 1 and 3. If it generates 1, it shows a picture of paper. If it generates 2, it shows a picture of a rock and if it generates 3, it shows a picture of scissors. Next week the children will be downloading their code onto the MicroBits to test it out! The children are really excited about this club and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Miss Catterall, our Computing Lead, for running it!
In other news, Thursday 6th March is World Book Day and we will be celebrating in school by having a non-uniform day and a fancy-dress competition. All children (& staff!) are invited to come into school dressed as their favourite book character and there will be prizes for each phase of school. There will be lots of activities going on during the day, including Reading, Writing and Baking in every class. We are also going to have a book swap in the library: children are invited to bring in a book that they would like to swap for another book. Please can children bring their book into school and pass it to their class teacher ahead of World Book Day. Each child that brings a book will be given a token by their teacher to take part in the swap during the day.
Thank you for all of your support this term; we are really proud of all the hard-work of the children and continue to look forward to working with you in partnership next term. We hope you have a good break of the half-term next week! Mr Greene
