Kung Hei Fat Choi! Happy Lunar New Year!
In EYFS this week the children have had a fantastic time learning about how people living in China celebrate the Lunar New Year. The children have learnt to say “Kung Hei Fat Choi”, which means “Happy New Year” as a traditional Chinese new year greeting. This year the children have been learning about the ‘Year of the Snake’, which has involved them making their own snakes out of paper. They have also really enjoyed trying Chinese food including noodles and fortune cookies. The children loved it and they now know lots of new information about China and how they celebrate this special tradition in their country.
In other news, the children in Year 4, Team Foss, have been working extremely hard with their learning. They have recently blown us away with their incredible progress in writing. In Maths, they have been learning how to use the formal method for short division with resounding success. The children love reading and they have really enjoyed finishing ‘The Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes which is their seventh book of the year! Mrs Everett has been so impressed with them this year and the progress they have made!
Meanwhile, up in Forest School, the children in Team Humber have been working hard to help Miss Dickinson and Mrs Caffrey construct a special new learning area in the woods on the school grounds. As part of our plans to grow the provision on offer, the team have made a new fire pit and cooking area! The teachers were so impressed with the hard work and commitment the children in Year 6 showed by helping to move logs and cut back the undergrowth to create this new space for all the children in school. We look forward to teaching the children to safely cook outdoors over the coming months. As we continue to work hard to keep everyone safe, please may we take this opportunity to remind our families that the Forest School areas are not to be used before and after school without trained staff supervision. Thank you!
Finally, there are a few key dates this term where we would like to invite you to come into school; please take a look below and make a note in your diary! We love having your support at these events and celebrating your children’s learning with you.
Thank you for your continued support and have a great weekend, Mr Greene
