Children’s Mental Health Week

This week at school we took part in Place2Be’s Children’s Mental Health Week 2025; we are working together to ensure that children in our school feel listened to, and know that they’re not alone. Launched with a whole-school assembly, and followed up in our class PSHE lessons this week, we have talked to the children about the importance of them noticing and talking about how they are feeling. The children have been using resources featuring the characters from Disney’s ‘Inside Out 2’ movie and they have really enjoyed taking part in the lessons. For more information, check out our ‘Spotlight on Children’s Mental Health’ sent out on Parenthub. As always, if we can support or help in any way, do not hesitate to get in touch.

In other news, it was lovely to see so many parents and carers come to our family reading event in Early Years to celebrate National Storytelling Week; thank you for your support! The author that the children in Esk and Nidd are learning about is Julia Donaldson. As part of this topic, we took Reception and Nursery to see The Smartest Giant in Town at the Grand Opera House in York yesterday. What a fantastic opportunity this was,  the children absolutely loved it!! Thank you to Miss Gill for organising this wonderful event and to all the staff for their support. Finally, a very special THANK YOU to the parents and carers who volunteered to attend to support the trip as well; without your help we could not run trips like this!

We are also delighted to announce that we will be launching our new pre-school   ‘Stay and Play’ sessions in the school hall after half-term on a Wednesday morning following school drop-off. The sessions will be full of toys, activities and play for you and your younger children to enjoy together, alongside Mrs Robertson and Miss Dickinson. Babes in arms are also welcome and the sessions will run until 10:00. There is no charge, there are refreshments and there is plenty of space to meet others and let your children play! We hope to see you there!

In order to help keep everyone safe at the beginning and the end of the day, can we also politely remind all of our parents and carers to drive and park around the school site with care and consideration. Please can space be kept around the school gate. On occasion, we also need to allow access to coaches; we will always notify you on Parenthub if this is the case. Finally, there are a number of things on the newsletter further down for your information, including how to purchase Leeds Rhinos tickets for the game on the 2nd March.

Have a great weekend and see you next week! Mr Greene

Safeguarding thought of the week.

This week we have attached a poster which contains really useful tips to keeping your children safe online. As our children grow up in an increasingly digital world, they are more exposed to online platforms, which have become a common means of communication. While these can offer opportunities for socialising and collaboration, there are also risks involved, particularly for young children in primary school. It’s important for us, as educators and parents, to be aware of these risks and take steps to protect our children.
