Newsletter 3rd October 2025

Friday 3rd October 2025

This week we were delighted to have a visit from Phoenix Martial Arts Centre to deliver a taster ‘Martial Arts Day’ in school. All of our classes took it in turns to attend the sessions in the school hall during the day and they absolutely loved it! The instructors taught the children a range of martial arts skills and gave time and space for every child to have a go. They were very impressed with our children’s listening skills and respect! This event forms part of our commitment in our PE curriculum to providing our pupils exposure to a range of new activities and sports. Thank you to Miss Smyth for organising it!

The children have continued to work extremely hard across school and it has been a joy to see them making so much progress. In Year 4, Eleanor has written a superb entry for the BBC 500 words competition we featured recently, which she read to her team yesterday. Well done Eleanor and good luck with your entry! Meanwhile, in Team Calder this week, they have been making and tasting their own soup! This has been a project where they have tasted different vegetables and then planned their own soup. On Wednesday they enjoyed making their own soup – the results were delicious! Well done Team Calder!

It was great to be able to share our Year 6 SATs information with parents this week at school. If you were unable to attend, please don’t worry; Miss Smyth is sending out the information. Please speak to Miss Smyth if you have any questions!

Finally, I hope you are able to join us next Tuesday after school for our next Celebration of Learning event from 15:15 – 16:00. Please come into your child’s classroom to look at their work from the beginning of the year and talk to their teachers. We will serve refreshments in the hall alongside a Tombola to raise funds for the children’s opportunities and activities. Then, during the following week, we will have our online parent consultation meetings. Please book a slot to speak to your child’s teacher and contact us if we can help in any way!

Thank you for your continued support and have a great weekend, Mr Greene
