Newsletter 16th January 2026

Friday 16th January 2026

I’m delighted to start this week by sharing the fantastic news that our school did a great job this week at the regional Key Stage 2 Cross Country event in Selby! Well done to everyone from Teams Derwent, Foss, Calder and Humber who went along to the finals event to represent our school at Selby High School. The children all did a fantastic job and we are very proud of them! Special congratulations go to our medal winners for each of their heats: Sophia (Derwent), Max (Foss), Izzac (Calder) and Hollie (Humber) – well done!

Meanwhile, our younger children have been working really hard in their Maths lessons. Pupils in Team Nidd this week have been learning doubles up to double 5 in their Maths sessions. Using cubes and songs to help them, they have been making excellent progress! In year 2, our pupils are also working hard in Maths. This week they have been working on their multiplication skills – great work Year 2!

It was also great to see so many parents and pre-school children at our weekly Stay and Play Session which restarted this week after the Christmas Break. If you have a pre-school baby or child and would like to join us and other parents for a chat, a play and light refreshments, please feel free to join Mrs Robertson and Miss Dickinson in the school hall on a Wednesday morning 08:45 – 09:45 after the morning drop-off. Alternatively, these sessions are open to those in the surrounding community, so please do recommend to your friends as well! Finally, it’s been great to see clubs start again this week, including our new EYFS parent and child Games Club. If you have a child in Team Esk or Nidd, please join us and feel free to bring any siblings along as well!

Thank you for your continued support and have a great weekend, Mr Greene
