We’ve had another super week of really interesting learning this week! For example, the children in Year 4 have been learning about Iron Age weaving using a Loom! Commonly in the Iron Age, people used vertical looms to make fabric for things like clothing. The children learnt about this and then made their own (horizontal) loom using a table, string and weights. They then worked together to thread fabric through the thread and tied it off to make their own fabric! Well done Team Foss!
Meanwhile, up in Forest Schools this week, the children in Year 6 have been carrying out Science experiments to find and measure quantities of worms up on the field. To find the worms, the children used the process of ‘worm charming’ as earthworms emerge to the surface when they detect low-frequency vibrations. The children loved carrying out this experiment!
In Team Nidd, the children have been learning about number composition. They have been exploring how
numbers can be made by combining smaller numbers together. To support this, we have been using the part–part–whole model, which helps children see how two smaller numbers (the parts) can come together to make a larger number (the whole). The children have been using practical resources to investigate different ways to make numbers. They have then been applying this understanding to write their own number sentences, helping them develop early addition skills and a deeper understanding of how numbers work. Well done Team Nidd!
In other news, we were delighted to welcome more families to our weekly Stay & Play drop in on Wednesday. Miss Dickinson brought water play along and we had lots of fun exploring in the water! Please be aware that the last Stay & Play session this term will be next Wednesday 18th March and will return again after the Easter break. Dates to be confirmed!
Finally, we are excited to share that we are holding an Easter Disco during the final week of term on Monday 23rd March 2026. The cost of the disco will be £3.00 and children will be provided with crisps, drink, chocolate roll and some sweets (vegetarian, gluten free and dairy free options will be available). We will not be selling anything during the disco so children will not need to bring any money. Timings as follows:
Nursery/EYFS/KS1 3.15pm – 4pm / KS2 (Y3-Y6) 4.15pm – 5pm
Payment for the event can be made on Arbor Payments and party clothes or fancy dress is welcome for the event.
Have a great weekend and see you next week, Mr Greene

Are there any enthusiastic cyclists?
This year cyclists can pay to enter and then fundraise for Brotherton & Byram School or a charity of their choice. The event is marshalled and family friendly as the short and long distance riders set off 15 minutes apart.
The camp is open to children aged 4–12 and includes fun, age-appropriate dance sessions, Easter-themed arts and crafts, outdoor activities, and structured games in a safe and supportive environment. We also offer early drop-off and late pick-up options to support working families.
Dance Elite are also proud to be part of the FEAST programme with North Yorkshire Council, supporting children who are eligible for benefits-related free school meals. This allows funded places for qualifying families, helping ensure children can access enriching holiday activities.
