Thursday 5th March 2026
This week we have been celebrating World Book Day 2026! World Book Day is a vital celebration of the power of storytelling, the enjoyment of books and their lifelong benefits. As part of our school-wide mission to foster a genuine love of reading, this day serves as a spark to ignite children’s imaginations and curiosity. Research consistently shows that reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success by improving vocabulary, empathy, and mental well-being. By celebrating our favorite characters and sharing stories together, we aren’t just teaching our students how to read; we are showing them how to fall in love with reading, opening doors to new worlds that will stay with them forever.
Thank you for all of your support; it was a joy to host a non-uniform day for the event with a special competition for children to dress up as their favourite storybook character. I’m delighted to share the winners from each phase were:
EYFS – Blake KS1 – Billy Lower KS2 – Lacey Upper KS2 – Parker
Congratulations to all of you and enjoy spending your book voucher!
The children looked amazing and we had lots of fun exploring the wonderful activities, linked to our featured books, that the teachers had planned. Thank you to those who were able to come in and join us this afternoon – it was great to celebrate together and to have your participation. A special thanks goes to Miss Smyth, our English Lead at school, for her energy and creativity in organising this event!
In other news, we also took a group of KS2 pupils to Selby for the inter-school ‘Play, Move, Explore’ sports event. The children represented our school really well and enjoyed the activities! Also, please remember to sign up to speak to your child’s teacher next week to hear how they are getting on as part of our week of online parents consultations. We look forward to sharing with you!
Finally, please also remember that tomorrow is a training day and school is closed for all pupils. Therefore, have a great weekend and see you next week.
Thank you for your continued support, Mr Greene

The camp is open to children aged 4–12 and includes fun, age-appropriate dance sessions, Easter-themed arts and crafts, outdoor activities, and structured games in a safe and supportive environment. We also offer early drop-off and late pick-up options to support working families.
Dance Elite are also proud to be part of the FEAST programme with North Yorkshire Council, supporting children who are eligible for benefits-related free school meals. This allows funded places for qualifying families, helping ensure children can access enriching holiday activities.
