Newsletter 17th July 2026

Friday 17th July 2026

This week across school we have been enjoying our whole-school transition week! The children have come into school for this important week with lots of energy and enthusiasm moving into their new classes with their new teachers. We know that this is really valuable time for our pupils as they learn their new routines, settle into their new learning environments and get to know their new teachers. We hope that this is a really supportive week ahead of the new school year in September.

Following on from their residential last week, our Year 6 leavers have been enjoying their last week with us at Brotherton and Byram. We are very proud of all you have achieved and who you have grown up to be! Team Humber – good luck again next year as you move into secondary school – please come back and see us soon!

As we approach the end of the year, it is a good time to pause and reflect. We have been so pleased to see the progress of our learners across school and to share in their learning development journeys. We have seen huge amounts of our school values – courage, honesty, trust and respect – in our pupils this year! Furthermore, I remain continually grateful to our hard-working staff team for all their commitment, creativity and passion every day.

This is a good opportunity, in particular, for me to thank the staff who are moving on now to new adventures.  Firstly, thank you to Miss Linder for your support across school. Secondly, thank you to Miss Dye for being our Sports Coach this year – we wish you every success with your new schools next year. We are also sad to say goodbye today to Miss Botterill (our Operations Manager) who is moving to support some different EBOR schools. Finally, a BIG thank you to Miss Oglesby for teaching our children for the past 12 years! You will all be missed – please come back and visit us!

Excitingly, we have some new (& returning!) staff joining us in September for me to let you know about. We are really pleased to announce that we have two new assistant teachers joining us to work in school next year: Miss Jones and Miss Vine. Both of them come with lots of experience and a passion to join us as we further the work we do here to support our wonderful pupils and families. Furthermore, I am delighted to share that Miss Wilson (who used to be a school business manager) is returning to join our team as our new Operations Business Manager next year. Welcome back!

Finally, I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for all of your support this year. Our home-school partnership is very important to us and we are very grateful for your continued support. We look forward to seeing you when the new term begins on Tuesday 8th September.

Have a fantastic summer break! Mr Greene

National Children’s Orchestras Auditions 2027

We are delighted to announce that auditions for NCO 2027 are now open! We’re hoping that some of the young musicians in your area would like to be a part of NCO Membership next year and we would be very grateful for your help spreading the word. To find out more, visit our website: Auditioning for NCO | The National Children’s Orchestras of Great Britain.

Auditions close at 9am on Friday 31st July 2026.

Those interested can also find out more at our auditions webinar on Sunday 31st May at 3p.m., where members of the NCO team will talk through the process and answer any questions. Register interest in attending here: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_pfd5W1f3TpKvy4McYJKjWg

Our aim is that money doesn’t create a barrier to a child hoping to take part in our activities. We want any young musician, no matter their background or circumstance, to have the opportunity to accept their offer of a place in NCO. It is possible to have all or part of the fees paid for by our Financial Support programme.

Thank you in advance for your help encouraging more young musicians to experience the joy of orchestral music making! If you have any questions about the process or sharing this information, please email auditions@nco.org.uk with any questions you may have.

 Play together. Be unstoppable.

Bookings are now live for our FEAST-funded holiday camp places.

For families who are not eligible for FEAST funding but would still like to attend, our parent-funded places are also available to book. Please feel free to share the link below alongside the FEAST information.
