Welcome back to a new term and a new school year! I hope you have all had a wonderful summer break and enjoyed the time off. We absolutely love this time of year; the energy, the ambition and the enthusiasm of our pupils is infectious! We have been blown away by the way the children have come back to school and got stuck into their new year groups and their new learning.
If you are a parent of a pupil who is joining us for the first time, may I extend an especially warm welcome to Brotherton and Byram CP Academy. We are extremely proud of this school community and the journey we are on together. Our school values – Honesty, Courage, Trust and Respect – shape who we are and how we work. Respect, particularly, is central to who we are and how we work together. I hope you and your children feel very welcome here and that they thrive with us on their education journey!
A warm welcome as well to our new learning support staff – Miss Vine and Miss Jones! They have loved getting to know the pupils and the team this week and it’s been a pleasure to have them join our team!
There has been such a buzz around school and it has been a joy to see the learning that the children have been getting on with. This year we are focusing on making sure that every pupil succeeds and thrives. Ensuring that every child secures the basics is the key foundation that all our learning builds upon. This year we are focusing closely on how we support children to improve these foundational skills, for example, handwriting, spelling, Phonics and Reading. I have also spoken to the children this week in assembly about our desire, as well, to focus on our Maths skills.
Our home-school partnership is very important to us. Do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s class teacher (either on the classroom door or via the school office), in the first instance, if you have any questions or concerns. If required, we also have a dedicated team of professionals who can provide further support and guidance including support from our academy specialists at EBOR Academy Trust and other professionals in North Yorkshire.
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership as we continue to work together. It looks like it will be another busy year and I am really excited to see the progress that all of our pupils will make!
