Day in the life of a Victorian

We’ve had such a busy week this week across school! Team Ouse have been learning about Victorians in their History topic this term and as part of this, Year 2 experienced a ‘Day in the Life of a Victorian’ on Monday. We practised handwriting, chanted times tables and our classroom was lit by candlelight! Mrs Jeff and Miss Oglesby were very strict, as you would expect, and any troublesome children experienced wearing the dunce’s cap! The children engaged really well with the session and learned lots of new things!

Meanwhile, the children in Team Esk and Team Nidd have been working hard on their Mathematics learning focusing on learning different ways to make 5. The children were investigating how many ways they could show two parts of 5 using different resources in the Maths area. They used their understanding of the number 5 to represent their findings in different ways using the part part whole model, using colours, pictures and writing numerals.

We are very proud of our pupils in Year 5 and Year 6 who represented us yesterday at the Selby Sports Hall Athletics sports event. They worked really hard and enjoyed the event. I’m delighted to say that Brotherton and Byram came in third place – well done! A huge thanks to Mrs Caffrey for organising the trip!

We hope you have a wonderful weekend; please remember that school is closed on Monday for a teacher-training day and we will reopen on Tuesday 3rd December. We are looking forward to the EYFS Christmas Performance next Tuesday at 14:00 and the KS1 Christmas Performance next Wednesday at 14:00. Both of these will take place in the school hall. We hope you enjoy the events and we are inviting parents to support our fundraising by purchasing a tick for the raffle at each event!

Thank you for your continued support, Mr Greene
