Newsletter 25th September 2026

Friday 25th September 2026

Hola! Guten Tag! Bonjour!  Today, we had the joy of celebrating our annual Languages Day 2026 in school! We are extremely proud of our excellent MFL provision and practice here at Brotherton and Byram. Led by Senora Sadullah, our children take part in weekly Spanish lessons all the way through to Year 6. This is a highlight of their curriculum and well-embedded. Many of our children are confident in reading, writing and speaking in Spanish now. Senora Sadullah has helped the teachers plan and deliver a range of different activities today to celebrate languages around the world. This year, we have done this through ‘Art’ and the children have been learning about international artists, their languages and their countries of origin. It has been absolutely fascinating and it has been wonderful to see how much the children have enjoyed their learning!

To introduce the day, we began with a whole-school assembly followed by lessons in class. In Teams Esk and Nidd, they have been learning how to speak in Spanish, especially how to say different colours in Spanish. Meanwhile, in Team Aire they have been learning some of the languages (like Romanian and French) that some of their peers can speak and making pictures with oil pastels. Other teams have been learning about folk art from different countries across the world and in Year 6, the pupils have been learning about traditional drawing from Mexico.

In other news, please can I remind all parents and carers to park safely around the school site. Please can we also ask that you do not park in Playcare’s car park next door. This is not our site and it makes it more difficult for families and visitors to their site. Thank you for your continued support.

We recently shared our calendar dates for the full term with families. If you have not received a copy, please contact the school office. There are also some key dates for your diaries below! There are lots of exciting school events to look forward to! In particular, can I remind you that our next Celebration of Learning takes place on Wednesday 14th October after school. This is a wonderful opportunity, early on in the school year, to come in and see what your child has been learning and speak to their teacher. We hope to see you there!

Have a great weekend, Mr Greene
