Friday 9th October 2026
This week on Monday we celebrated our annual Harvest Festival together as a whole-school community in the hall. Miss Gill led the assembly and talked about the importance of our food, where it comes from and how important it is to share food with those around us. This links into our RE curriculum and the Christian celebration of Harvest at this time of year. The children also really enjoyed singing the Harvest songs including ‘Harvest Samba’ and ‘Conkers’, which are two of their favourites! Thank you Miss Gill for organising and leading this for our school!
In other news this week, the children in Year 6 have been creating some wonderful traditional Mexican Folk Art! The combined Sun and Moon face motif (Known as ‘El Sol y La Luna’) in Mexican folk art is a classic symbol representing duality and balance. Using colouring pencils, the children had a go at recreating their own sketches based on examples from Mexico. The result has been amazing and they have created fantastic art work!
Meanwhile, over in Year 3, the children in Team Derwent have been doing some fantastic singing and
learning in Spanish this week! I was delighted to go and see their learning yesterday (and their amazing singing!). The children loved the session and they were so engaged with Mrs Sadullah. Well done Team Derwent! You are making fantastic progress in Spanish!
We hope to see as many of you as possible for our Celebration of Learning next week on Wednesday 14th October 2026. At the end of the day, we will open up the school and we would like to share your children’s learning journey this year with you so far!
In the meantime, have a good weekend and see you next week, Mr Greene
