Archery takes off at Brotherton and Byram!

Dear parents and carers,

It’s been fantastic to expand the range of activities and sports events we can offer at Brotherton and Byram this year. A particularly exciting opportunity, that has been very popular, is our new Archery Clubs. Due to popular demand we are running these after school and also on a Thursday lunchtime.

The lunchtime clubs launched this week with an important safety talk and demonstration. The children then take turns 1:1 to use the training bow with rubber arrows. Each week they will develop their skills and we are looking forward to seeing how they get on. Other clubs that have launched at lunchtimes include: Football, Basketball and Dodgeball!

Please note that our new after-school clubs will be starting from next week (22nd January 2024) and will run until the last week of term before Easter (w.c. 18/03/24). We hope your children really enjoy taking part in the different activities on offer. For your information, we have also received information about the local Playcare holiday club for half-term, which we have added to the bottom of this newsletter.

In other news, I would like to share some important staffing updates with you. As you will be aware, Mr Metcalfe took up his new role this month working regionally for the EBOR Academy Trust. He will still be with us on Mondays and Tuesdays at Brotherton but we advertised for a new Family Support Worker to take up his previous post at school. Following a rigorous selection process, I am delighted to announce that Mrs Robertson has been appointed to the role. Mrs Robertson will begin part-time next week on a Monday and Tuesday, whilst she continues teaching in EYFS on a Thursday and Friday. We are now in the process of recruiting a new part-time Reception teacher from Easter to allow Mrs Robertson to then step into her new role across the week in the Summer Term. Congratulations Mrs Robertson!

We know how valuable many of you have found the support that Mr Metcalfe offers and we are delighted to expand our capacity as a school further with the appointment of Mrs Robertson to this important role. Please continue to come and have a chat with myself, Mr Metcalfe and Mrs Robertson out and about on the playground or at the school office if you ever need any help or support. We are always happy to listen, talk things through, offer support in school and signpost to partner agencies to ensure that your child is happy, healthy and ready to learn.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support and have a wonderful weekend, Mr Greene
