Positive Mental Health
This week we were very proud of Marley and Blake, our Year 5 Team Calder Class Champions, for planning and delivering a fantastic whole-school assembly on Mental Health! Marley and Blake represent our school at our EBOR Academy Trust Pupil Parliament. The Pupil Parliament is a group of representatives from each school who meet regularly in an online forum to discuss and share ideas with each other about school life across our family of schools. This year the focus is on the importance of promoting and supporting positive mental health. As part of their drive for improvement, the boys planned an informative assembly about mental health. They also took questions from their peers and came up with lots of great suggestions to help their friends. During the assembly, they also launched a school competition to design and make posters to put up around school to promote positive mental health. They will judge the winners (one from each phase) next week and hand out prizes that promote a healthy lifestyle. They are also working with the school council on whole-school initiatives to help further so watch this space! Well done to both of them as it takes a lot of courage and commitment!
In other news this week, it was a joy to welcome in our friends from ‘Bikeability’ who visit us every year to teach our youngest learners how to use and ride balance bikes. Fun and interactive, these outdoor sessions allow every pupil in Team Esk, Nidd and Aire to have a go on balance bikes and take part in following different courses, whilst learning new skills. The children loved the sessions and they are a wonderful way of enriching our excellent PE curriculum. Furthermore, as the weather improves, we are aware that many more children will be out and about on their bikes and scooters enjoying being outdoors and it is important for them to remain as safe as possible. Thank you Mrs Jeff for organising this wonderful set of workshops!
Have a lovely weekend, Mr Greene

This year cyclists can pay to enter and then fundraise for Brotherton & Byram School or a charity of their choice. The event is marshalled and family friendly as the short and long distance riders set off 15 minutes apart.
