Friday 5th June 2026
Welcome back to school this week! We hope you had a lovely half-term break and enjoyed the sunny weather! We are now entering the final half-term of the year (doesn’t time fly?!) and we have lots to look forward to! Please see below for further information for some key events coming up. This term we have a number of trips taking place, as well as the Year 6 end of school Residential trip to Thirsk. We also have Sports Day on the 18th June and there will be a separate parent information letter coming out with everything you need to know. We are looking forward to sharing this event with you! We also have the Year 3 and 4 musical showcase, as well as the Year 5 and 6 production coming up later in the term. Furthermore, don’t forget to come down and join us on Monday 6th July at the end of the school day for our annual Summer Fair for fun and games!
We have had lots of wonderful learning across school this week. In Year 5, Team Calder have been working hard in Maths learning to find common denominators in fractions! In writing, they have been characterising direct speech and in Forest School they have been using tools to make duck whistles! They have had some amazing learning across the whole team this week! Well done! Meanwhile, in Year 4, Team Foss have completed their Science unit on Electricity now. They finished the unit by designing and making their own switches and testing them in simple circuits. Great work! We have also been blown away by the amazing work that our Year 6 young librarians have been doing at lunchtime running reading sessions for our youngest learners! Thank you team!
In their Writing lessons, the children in Team Humber have been creating their own poems based on work by the author of their class novel (The Final Year) – Matt Goodfellow. Miss Smyth shared some examples of their success with him on social media and they were delighted to receive very positive feedback from him this week! Well done Year 6!
Finally, can we please remind families and pupils not to come onto the school playground and premises too early in the day. Many of our Year 5 and 6 pupils make their own way to school but please remember that the doors open between 08:35-08:45, so they don’t need to be on site too early.
Thank you for your continued support and have a great weekend, Mr Greene
