Friday 15th September 2023

Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you for your continued support..

We have had a really busy week this week learning lots of new things with our teams as we have embedded our new classroom routines. I have been extremely impressed with the ‘high energy’ of our children this week as they have engaged in their learning throughout the school. At the start of the school year we place a sharp focus on building routine and setting expectations as we begin our time together. Thank you for your support in ensuring children are in school every day, on time and ready to learn.

This week we have been delighted to launch HUB club again on Monday, Wednesday and Friday lunchtimes with Mrs Kellet, Miss Heron and Mr Metcalfe. These are fun and exciting lunchtime clubs and they are open to all.

In Year 4, the children have been having lots of fun learning about how the digestive system works with a very ‘hands on’ Science lesson! We have also had our new Music Specialist Teacher, Miss Wilkins, teaching in KS2 this week. I know the children have really enjoyed beginning to learn how to play musical instruments and we look forward to seeing them progress over the year ahead as they learn how to be musicians!

If your child is in Team Foss, please do come and join us at the end of the school day next Monday or Wednesday in their classroom at 15:15 to find out more about the  upcoming residential trip to Kingswood Activity Centre!

Finally, parents of children in Nidd and Aire, please join us in the school hall at 16:00 next Tuesday 19th September for a fun information session on how you can support your child as they learn to read. We would love to see you there.

Please do not hesitate to come and speak to me at any time! Thank you and have a wonderful weekend.

Together we achieve more, Mr Greene

SAFEGUARDING THOUGHT OF THE WEEK

VAPING/E-CIGARETTES

Unfortunately the number of children trying out vaping has risen considerably over the past few years. There are several negative short term side effects to vaping and worryingly the long term risks are unknown. We want to ensure that all our children are safe and healthy. Understandably  this can be a difficult subject to broach with your child/children. Please find some advice from Action for Children as to how to discuss this with your child;

  • Find a good time to start the conversation. It might be as you walk past a vape shop or see someone using an e-cigarette.
  • Ask your child what they know about vaping. You can ask them if they know of people who use  them and why they use them. You might ask them if they’ve ever tried it.
  • Listen to your child, their experience, and their point of view. Show you are interested in what they have to say.
  • Then you can gently and calmly give them some facts about vaping. Ask them what they think about the facts.
  • If your child is already using a vape, then have the same conversation with them and ask them what they like about it. You are not saying it’s okay for them to do it, by being interested. You can still be clear about how you feel.
  • If they feel pressured into vaping by friends, you can teach them helpful skills of being confident in saying ‘no thanks, it’s not for me’.
