We’re in full swing with Music at Brotherton and Byram!
The classroom’s of Brotherton and Byram School are full of the sound of music following the appointment of our new specialist Music teacher, Miss Wilkins. The Director of Otley Brass band, Miss Wilkins teaches the children every Thursday and she also runs a successful lunchtime brass ensemble in the HUB.
Following a range of successful initiatives, including fundraising in the community and new partnerships with the North Yorkshire Music Hub, we now have a wide range of instruments for the children to access on our site. Our instrumentation offer across school is really exciting! Beginning in EYFS and Year 1, children learn untuned percussion before progressing to tuned percussion including boomwhackers and bells in Year 2. Then, in KS2, children learn the recorder (yr 3), the ukulele (yr 4), trumpets and trombones (yr 5) and finally the violin (yr 6)! It has been a joy to hear the children exploring sound in such a fun way and there is a real buzz around the school listening to them play.
We are looking forward to our children performing their new skills to our families and carers in the near future so watch this space to see our young musicians in action!
