“STOP” –  BB is a safe school where children are able to thrive!

This week we have supported Anti-Bullying week at school. On Monday, Mrs Jeff delivered assemblies to KS1 and KS2 and children were encouraged to wear odd socks to celebrate our individuality and differences. The theme for Anti-Bullying week this year was ‘Make a noise about bullying.’ As a school we have talked about ways we can make a noise about bullying. In KS2 we discussed the difference between banter and bullying. All children were reminded to speak to a safe adult if they feel they or someone else is being bullied. We also recapped our whole school approach to bullying ‘STOP – several times on purpose.’ Thank you Mrs Jeff for organising such an important theme week for our learning community.

Also this week we were delighted to have a visit from the North Yorkshire Fire Service from the Selby Watch! Five fire officers brought along their fire engine onto the school playground to tell our pupils in EYFS all about how they keep people safe as part of their learning on ‘People Who Help Us’. The children also got to sit in the engine and see the hose in action. Thank you Miss Dickinson for organising this event!

Lastly, thank you for all your support today with Children In Need for this very worthwhile cause. Have a wonderful weekend,

Together we achieve more, Mr Greene

Safeguarding Thought of the Week

Parental Controls on Online Devices

In last week’s Safeguarding Thought of the Week we discussed online safety and ways to keep your children as safe as possible when online. We can access the online world on numerous devices in and out of the home. As trusted adults (parents/carers/staff) we need to ensure that these devices have the right settings to stop our children from accessing inappropriate material. Here at school children use their chromebooks to access the internet. We have in place a monitoring and filtering system that prevents children from accessing inappropriate material and that also informs us if they have tried to access inappropriate or concerning material. There are numerous devices that children can access the internet on. The majority of these devices do not come with parental settings enabled and they need to be checked to ensure that they are in place. Below are a list of devices where your children can access the online world;

  • Home Broadband and WIFI – You can put parental settings and restrictions in place via your broadband provider, which will restrict devices that use the WIFI
  • Games Consoles – X-Box, Playstation, Nintendos, PC’s. All of these devices can access the internet and need to have appropriate settings in place
  • Mobile phones and tablets – These devices are often used out of the home and away from adults. Therefore is it of utmost importance that we have the correct parental controls in place.

If you have any concerns regarding what your child has accessed online or need support putting in place parental settings, please contact Mr Metcalfe.
