Our Year 6 Pupils are persuasive writers!

This week the children in Year 6 have been working hard on developing their writing skills. They have all worked incredibly hard on applying their writing skills to write a longer piece of work in the classroom with the focus on writing a persuasive piece. The children then stood up to read out their work to try and persuade their friends to vote for their piece. Huge congratulations to Jenson, Kane, Myla and Kayden who won the vote and then came down to the office to persuade me! We are all very proud of what you have achieved.

Meanwhile, across school, Christmas is certainly in the air at Brotherton and Byram CP Academy with decorations and trees going up across the school. The children have also been working hard on practising for their different Christmas performances next week; we do hope you will be able to join us.

There are a couple of key messages to draw your attention to this week. Firstly, if your child is in Team Calder or Team Humber you will have seen that a message was sent out this week inviting you to sign up for the upcoming Bikeability sessions. Team Humber parents – please use the google form to give your consent. Team Calder parents – we then have 4 additional spaces available on a first come, first served basis. Please reserve a place on Parentpay. If you are unable to reserve a space this year, then your child will be offered a place when they are in Year 6 next year. Please also note that Sportshall Athletics had been cancelled on Wednesday 6th December.

Finally, if your child is in Nursery (Team Esk), please be aware of the Reception place application key dates on the next page. If you would like to apply for a school place in our school you must do so through the North Yorkshire admissions website by 15th January 2024. If you have any questions about Reception or the application process, please do not hesitate to come and speak to me.

Have a wonderful weekend and see you all next week! Mr Greene

Safeguarding Thought of the Week

Behaviour at Brotherton and Byram

Here at Brotherton and Byram CP Academy we have high expectations of our pupils and want all our children to feel safe in school. In keeping our high expectations and providing a safe and stable environment for our children we pride ourselves on our behaviour policy, the behavioural expectations in and around school and importantly the positive impact that this has on our children. Ofsted noted that:

pupils enjoy coming to school and attend regularly. They know how to behave sensibly and usually do. The rewards that pupils receive help them to behave well”.

In the link below you will see our Behaviour Expectations chart that is in all our classrooms. There are positive incentives for good and wow choices and consequences for wobbly and unacceptable choices. This may result in children missing their playtimes, but they are given this time to reflect on their behaviour and the choices that they have made. This is always supported by staff  through our restorative approach as we are aware that children (and adults!) will make wobbly and unacceptable choices from time to time. Please view the link below for more information about our behaviour policy and if you have any questions please speak to Mr Metcalfe or Mr Greene. We thank you all for your support with this and helping us provide a safe and predictable environment for our children.
