Friday 8th March 2024

A wonderful celebration of reading and learning!

This week we came together to celebrate World Book Day and we had a wonderful time sharing books, reading and learning about creative writing with our visiting guest author Sarah Shafi! Reading lies at the heart of our school and we are committed to our ongoing mission of inspiring children to pick up a book and succeed in their reading.  The children enjoyed the non-uniform day and many were delighted to bring along their favourite book. Throughout the day, every class had a writing workshop with Sarah and they loved hearing top tips for how they could improve their own writing. A huge thank you to Sarah for coming in to spend the day with us and thank you to Miss Smyth (our English Lead) for organising the day.

We also ran a very successful competition for children to dress up as their favourite character! Congratulations to all the runners up and winners! Thank you to everyone who took part and thank you at home for all of your ongoing support. The teachers also got involved and Miss Catterall smashed the competition to win the children’s vote! Well done!

I also want to say thank you for your support with our Celebration of Learning event yesterday. It was a real joy to welcome you in with your children to allow them to share their learning with you this term. We know from the event last term, how much you valued the opportunity to see work in classrooms and children’s books, especially ahead of parent consultations, and it was a pleasure to see so many who could attend. Don’t forget to sign up for a parent consultation with your child’s teacher next week if you haven’t already done so.

There are a couple more events coming up before the Easter holidays which I would like to draw your attention to. Firstly, next Friday 15th March is Red Nose Day and children are welcome to come wearing non-uniform. Any donations to the Red Nose Day charity event can be made through Parent Pay. Finally, we do hope that you can join us for our Easter Celebration at Church on the last day of term (Friday 22nd March) to share the children’s learning.

Have a lovely weekend and see you next week, Mr Greene

This is another popular social media app and we are aware that it is used by some of our children. The attached poster is a really useful guide for parents and carers and what they need to know about this app. Please can all parents be mindful of what your children are accessing on their electronic devices.
