Newsletter 28th February 2025
Friday 28th February 2025
We hope you all had a lovely half-term break. The children have come back to school and really enjoyed getting stuck back in with their learning and there has been so much going on! Firstly, we launched our new community ‘Stay & Play’ sessions in the school hall and we were thrilled to open the doors and welcome in lots of local families and children! Organised by Mrs Robertson and Miss Dickinson, these weekly sessions take place on a Wednesday and run from 08:45 – 09:45. There are lots of toys and activities for parents to enjoy with their children, as well as refreshments, and time to meet other parents from the local area. Please drop in and see us on a Wednesday for a drink and a chat. We are really looking forward to seeing this group develop this term!
Also on Wednesday, we took the children in Teams Derwent, Foss and Calder on their trip to the National Coal Mining Museum in Wakefield. Based at the site of Caphouse Colliery, the museum offers children a ‘hands-on’ experience to find out more about 180 years of local mining history. The children loved exploring the site and handling the equipment on their tour. They also enjoyed the excellent workshops run by the museum staff. A highlight of the trip with the immersive time tunnel experience and tour. Many thanks to Miss Leng for organising this wonderful trip and to the parent volunteers who supported us. Thank you as well for your support in making this trip possible; we really appreciate your ongoing support.
In other news, today the children in EYFS (Team’s Esk and Nidd) enjoyed their Julia Donaldson Themed Day as part of their topic. The children have enjoyed a fun filled few weeks learning all about the author Julia Donalson and her popular stories. We have learned about The Smartest Giant in Town, the Gruffalo and Zog the dragon. We finished our topic by dressing up and it was so wonderful to see the children in character for the day. We paraded around the school to show off our costumes! Meanwhile, in Year 1, the children in Team Aire have been working hard designing and printing their own bags. They created their own designs on chromebooks and their own printing blocks before adding paint and printing onto fabric bags. The finished products look amazing! Well done Year 1!
Finally, we are looking forward to all the ways we have of sharing the children’s learning with you this half-term, including: Sharing Assemblies (see each classes dates on the calendar further down – please note the previously advertised change of date for Team Derwent), the next Celebration of Learning (Tuesday 18th March at 15:15) and Online Parent Consultations (week beginning 24th march). Please note: bookings for parent consultations online are now open and have been sent out on Parent Hub. Please book an appointment to speak to your child’s teacher and contact the office if you have any questions or need any help with this.
Have a great weekend and see you next week, Mr Greene
