Parking outside school

Dear Parents,

I recently sent out a message regarding parking illegally and dangerously outside of school and the worries we have about the safety of our children walking to and from school.  Our local residents and businesses are also very concerned as they are frequently having drives blocked by people parking before and after school. Recently we have also had complaints that some people parking their cars to drop off or collect children from school have started to become abusive.

We know parking at the front of school is difficult but please can you help us by parking legally (not on double yellow lines, on the zig zags or on business premises or across residents’ driveways, parking in the village hall car park and walking down to school or walking from home.

The police came in to school yesterday and we discussed how we could work together to ensure the safety of our children and the inconvenience it is causing to residents, as they too have had many complaints.  We cannot be out on the road all the time but will be out at different times next week, ensuring that people know where they can park legally and making sure the children can walk to school safely at these times.  The police will also be making spot checks. The following week, we will be sending registration numbers of any cars parked illegally to our local police officer. Hopefully we will not have any cars parked illegally and will not have to forward any  registration numbers to the police.

It is really saddening to have to take this action but I am sure you will agree, the safety of all our children is paramount in this situation.

Thank you so much for your understanding.  If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
